On the 23rd Birthday of legendary DJ Jazzy Jeff back in 1987, their record label, Jive/RCA had a showcase featuring performances from Philly rapper Steady B & DJ Tat Money, Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince and Ready Rock C, KRS-One (NYC) (backed by Ivan ‘Doc’ Rodriguez aka DJ Doc).
This was a monumental event in the creation of Philly hip hop, industry related individuals and aspiring artist around the city were going crazy trying to find a way to NYC to witness and support our Philly artist whom we felt made it. They were signed to a major label doing shows in NYC, and on the same label as some heavy hitters in the game.
While the headliner of the show was that night was Kool Moe Dee, If you were in that building that night and you were from Philly…The head liner was truly the fact that our people (DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince and Steady B) were officially in the building and their achievements may very well open doors which may have normally been close to talent in our city.
And yes we were in the building…after Lady B Had to come get us, lol.
